New Youth Busking Competition at Randox Antrim Show

Randox Antrim Show’s new Youth Busking competition is open to individuals or groups of up to six performers of secondary school age (up to 18 years old), from schools, young farmers’ clubs or youth groups across the Antrim and Newtownabbey Borough.

One of the Show’s objectives is to attract rural and urban youth from the Antrim and Newtownabbey Borough Council area. So, this year, entertainment will be provided by local youth for local youth thanks to this new competition.

All types of singers and musical genres are welcome.  Entrants will each be allocated a different location at the Show in Shanes Castle on Saturday 28 July and will be required to play between 1pm and 4pm, during which time the judging will take place.

PRIZE:

The winning will be awarded a £250 prize. They will also earn their affiliated school/ youth group/ YFC a  £100 donation.  All groups can also arrange to collect donations from the public during their performance.

HOW TO REGISTER:

This Competition is FREE to enter but spaces are limited. Groups must register for the competition prior to 20th July 2018 to allow ticketing to be arranged for group members, plus ONE helper/minder/parent per group.  Download and complete this Busking Registration Form 2018 and return to secretary@antrimshow.com by 20th July.  If you require electric, please confirm this on the Registration Form.

 

Randox Antrim show reserves the right to limit entries (depending on number of entries).

 

The following guidelines have been prepared to help you to have a safe and enjoyable day.

REGISTRATION

  • Registration must be done by submitting the registration form to secretary@antrimshow.com by 20 July 2018
  • You will receive a confirmation email back to confirm registration.

ARRIVAL ON SHOW DAY

  • The Competition will take place on Saturday 28 July 2018 in Shane’s Castle Estate, Antrim as part of the Randox Antrim Show.
  • Please report to the Secretary’s Office on arrival to confirm you are in the Show Grounds, no later than 12.30pm.

YOUR BUSKING PITCH

  • You will be allocated a pitch for the duration of the competition and must remain their unless instructed otherwise by an event official.
  • Please use plastic or tin drink containers – glass is not permitted.
  • All rubbish should be disposed of safely in waste bins.
  • Ensure that cases, instruments or other pieces of equipment do not become an obstruction or trip hazard.
  • The content of your act must not be in breach of any law or copyright and should adhere to the rules of common decency.
  • Any act that the judges deem to be dangerous, offensive or otherwise inappropriate will be asked to stop and will be withdrawn from the competition.

AMPLIFICATION

  • Amplification is permitted, if you require to use it. You can provide your own battery powered amplification or we can provide electric hook up. Respect your fellow performers by keeping the volume at a level which is safe and acceptable to the general public and the event officials.

WELFARE

  • Dress appropriately and protect yourself against all kinds of weather which could be changeable throughout the day.
  • First Aid Units will be located in the Show Grounds.

PHOTOGRAPHY

  • For publicity purposes, photographs will be taken throughout the day of the event. All buskers have signed their Registration/Consent Form when entering and under 18’s require parent/guardian consent.

UNDER 18s

  • Children must be accompanied by an adult throughout the event.

JUDGING

  • We want to see you perform naturally and how you entertain the public so you may not know when you have been judged and it may be on more than one occasion throughout the afternoon during the hours of 1.00 – 4.00pm.
  • The judges decision is final. No discussion will be entered into.

STEWARDS

  • Event Stewards will be on duty throughout the Show.
  • For Health and Safety reasons you must comply with the Stewards instructions at all times.
  • Report anything suspicious or inappropriate to the nearest Steward.
  • Health and Safety is the responsibility of everyone, please ensure that your own actions promote a safe and enjoyable day for all those taking part.

Randox Antrim Show launches its Family Day Out

If you are looking for a day filled with all things country, there will be a fantastic display of award-winning majestic horses, clean cattle, woolly sheep, pink pigs and bleating goats to enjoy at this year’s Randox Antrim Show on Saturday 28 July at the picturesque Shane’s Castle.

Sponsors, stewards, members, supporters and local YFC members recently gathered to find out what’s new as entries were opened for this year’s event.

Donations

During the evening, the Antrim Agricultural Society donated £1,000 to the Chest, Heart and Stroke Association of Northern Ireland, in memory of the late George Robson Senior, past Patron of the Society.

Also, in memory of their father, George and Suzanne Robson presented the George Robson Memorial Cup to the Society.  The cup will be presented to the Show’s Champion Dorset.

 

James Crawford also presented a trophy this year; a shield for Gardener of the Year.

The sponsor’s reception was kindly supported by the Council and catered for by Kells & Connor and Lylehill YFCs.

New Bursary Recipient

Naomi McCullen from Straid YFC was revealed as being the lucky recipient of the inaugural Randox Antrim Show YFC bursary. Her role will see her travel to several shows across the country to compile a presentation of ideas to develop the show, helping ensure it continues to grow and appeal to both the rural and urban audience.

Finals and New Classes

  • Working Hunter Classes for ponies and horses make a welcome new addition to Antrim’s show Schedule this year.  Antrim is also a qualifier for the Bluegrass/NISA Clydesdale Championship 2018.  This is in addition to normal classes and the show-jumping section with a total prize fund of £2,250.

  • In the sheep section, Antrim will be hosting the Border Leicester’s National Show, and classes for the new breed, Suffolk Cheviot, have been added. Dutch Texel will also be exhibited for the first time in Northern Ireland under the ‘Any other breed’ classes.
  • In the cattle section, Antrim will host the Final of the Bank of Ireland/NISA Pedigree Junior Bull Championship and be a qualifier for the Linden Foods/NISA Pedigree Beef Heifer Championships.
  • For the fifth year, Antrim will host the NI Limousin Championships which will also incorporate the Young Limousin Breeders Anglo Irish Stock Judging Competition.
  • Home Industries has a new class this year – the Women’s Institute Team Competition – and the Show is a qualifier for the final of the County Antrim Shows Chocolate Cake of the Year competition.

The exhilarating, crowd pleasing NI Sheep Shearers Association’s shearing competition once again returns. Its grandstand has the added bonus of giving you a chance for a rest while you watch the against-the-clock spectacle.

Some Family Fun Highlights

  • From creative crafts to calorific cakes, there will be lots of non-farm animal activities that will have wide appeal to attract spectators from both farming and non-farming communities.
  • New for 2018 is a Youth Busking Competition where 12-17 year olds who reside in the Council area, can busk during the afternoon with the chance of winning £250 for themselves and £100 for their school or youth group.  Email the Show Secretary before 20th July for details on how to register.
  • Northern Ireland’s very own celebrity chef Paula McIntyre returns with cookery demonstrations in the Festival of Food marquee as does last year’s successful introduction of dog agility displays, a petting zoo for kids and the ‘King & Queen of the Castle’ jiving competition.
  • The YFC County Games Competitions Day will also be held at Antrim with Tug-of-war, Tractor Handling, Gator Challenge and Slippery Football just to mention a few of the games.
  • Other popular spectacles on the day include the Children’s Pet Show and the varied displays of floral art, photography, jams, wine, eggs, baking, fruit, vegetables, handicraft, horticulture, baking, and arts and crafts projects from Primary Schools and Young Farmers’ Clubs.  There will also a range of side shows and attractions to keep kids of all ages amused, and many trade stands and stalls to browse.

Times and Prices

The action takes place on Saturday 28th July from 9am to 5pm. Admission to Randox Antrim Show is £10 per person and children under 16 years of age go free when accompanied by a paying adult. Car parking is also free.

Antrim Agricultural Society Appoint new Patron at AGM

Antrim Agricultural Society recently held its annual general meeting at Shanes Castle; the grounds of its annual Randox Antrim Show.

During the meeting’s formal proceeding James Crawford was appointed to Patron of the Society, a position left vacant by the passing of George Robson Snr; a long standing and dedicated member of the Society to whom tributes were paid.

The positions of President, James Clements, Chairman, Fred Duncan, and Vice Chair, Robert Wallace, remain constant for the incoming year.

As expected, directors Tom Clyde, William Graham, Alistair Lindsay, James Gray, Andrew Nicholl and John Herron, who were all up for re-election, were re-elected.

Finally, Laura Patterson from Holestone YFC was appointed the committee’s YFC Representative, as Melanie McClean has become a co-opted Director.

Guest Speaker from Randox Health

After the formal proceedings, attendees got a chance to hear from the evening’s guest speaker; a representative of the Show’s new title sponsor, Business Development Manager, Marc Coppez from Randox Health.  Marc gave an informative talk that gave attendees an insight into looking after your health and the benefits of having Randox Health Checks.
